Another Anomaly?
This also happened Thursday -- in the medical building's parking garage.

On entering the parking garage, I stopped to grab the time-ticket on which charges are based.  Since I was not quite close enough to the machine, I put the car in park so I could open the door to get the card. Got it,  put gear in Drive and took my foot off the brake: didn't move and all dash symbols lit up. Repeated the process -- 2 more times. Cars are lining up and beeping -- arrgggghhh -- as my family would tell you: for me, not a strange happening at all -- I rolled down the window, stuck my head out, and hollered, "Does anybody understand dashboard? Help, please." In the meantime, the line behind me was growing. After 2 more hollers out, a young gentleman sauntered over, looked inside and, laughing gently, turned off the cruise control. At least no guffaws, a more common result.  Problem #1 solved.

Now to find a parking slot in a large garage that's always near full. Sometimes it takes 10 minutes to find a space. But not today; today I got one in about 2 minutes, but it was marked for compact cars. However, I wasn't sure my car was one (we'd had full-size or vans for the last 15 years). However, an elderly gentleman assured me my Accord IS a compact and so I parked there and put the ticket in my purse as I exited the car. Well, I thought I'd put it in my purse.

2.5 hours later, as I left the building, I searched my bag for the ticket. Not there. Not in my pants' pockets. Not in the car nor on the floor next to the car.  Nowhere to be found. Crap! It would cost me a full day's fee. $22.00 for 2.5 hours was bad enough; twice that  + $6.00 more? Beyond bad.  When I reached the attendant, I explained that I'd arrived at 12:30 plus/minus a few minutes, parked in space #98 and found I'd lost the ticket.  She asked again when did I arrive, then said someone dropped off a ticket they'd found near that space stamped 12:34.  Must be mine! Problem #2 solved.

What are the odds, given the amount of time and the amount of garage traffic at a very large medical building, that the ticket would not only be found but also left with the attendant?

That's a very neat story :-)!

No idea what the odds are, of course... Cruise control should turn itself off automatically, though. You should probably see a mechanic about that. Or even an "electronic", these days :-p!

Yes ~ the cruise control should:

1) deactivate whenever the brake pedal is pressed (i.e. it should no longer control the speed, but still be ready to respond to another setting of the speed)

2) allow the car to respond to the accelerator pedal

I've driven the car, and it seemed to behave properly for me earlier in April. =)

Thank you for backing this up.

Patrixa: Don't turn the bugger on again before someone had a look?

Yeah, it was fine then. However, last March, when, after a brief drive on snowy roads, I parked the car, removed the key when all systems lit up the dash plus the alarm loudly rang and I couldn't unlock the door. I turned the car on which stopped the mayhem until I turned everything on. off to no avail. After a few minutes when no one came by, I tried the window which, due to failsafe electronics in case one falls/drives into a body of water, opened just fine. However the thought of contorting myself through it was not fine. I followed your Dad's instructions to unflood a flooded carbeurator -- does that ever happen now? -- by waiting several minutes before trying again. Finally had to get Dan who called a mechanic pal who told him what to do which he did which involved resetting something under the hood. Next week I'll call the dealer; since I had the car in for it's 10k mile check up just before I visited you, this should not be happening.

I agree. A very good friend once told my husband: driving with me was always fun as my Angel was always with me so she didn't need to worry. How right she was, for I've been very fortunate a very long time in some peculiar situations.

I'm home safe until the end of June when another check must be made there.

There are some very decent people out there. I think especially in a hospital situation.

I've never given angels much thought. Between you, Astrid and Co and my website medium lady I'm getting the message loud and clear. They do exist, you just need to see them.

Just reinforces the concept of angels walking among us all. You've had an interesting Thursday, let's hope the remainder of the week wasn't as much of a challenge. :o)
